Graduate Student Technical Paper Competition
Information & Eligibility:
- The main author of submissions to this category should be a graduate student.
- For any work submitted that is the product of research supervised by a faculty adviser, the faculty adviser may be included as a second author.
- The intent of the competition is to support the development of participants’ research writing skills, so it is anticipated that students submitting the work are the primary authors of the paper and were responsible for its content.
- Three graduate submissions will be selected based on the content of the technical papers.
- The top three winners in the will receive complimentary registrations (for one member only of a team), as well as travel funds up to $500 per entry. The top three submissions will receive small monetary awards depending on the availability of the funds.

*Please note: While your paper may be accepted and scheduled for presentation, if EWRI has not received your intent to compete via the online survey, the paper will not be eligible for consideration in the Graduate Student Paper Competition.
Undergraduate Student Technical Paper Competition

Student Poster Competition
Information & Eligibility:
- Authors must be able to present their work on a designated poster board at the conference.
- Final papers are optional and may be published in the Conference Proceedings.

Conference Proceedings
Graduate and undergraduate student paper competitors are required to submit a final paper; poster student competitors are not. Any student who submits a final paper will have his/her paper reviewed by the track chairs for consideration and publication in the Conference Proceedings.
WSP Student Design Competition
The WSP Student Design Competition aims to provide learning opportunities for undergraduate students in developing practical and innovative solutions to real-life infrastructure problems. Currently all undergraduate civil/environmental engineering programs are required to include a "capstone" design experience. The WSP Student Design Competition provides a forum for students to showcase their capstone-related design work. To participate, each student team should submit a four-page project summary to Jenn Jacyna by March 31, 2020.
- Project summaries should be submitted in MS Word or Adobe PDF format. There are no specific requirements regarding page formatting, line spacing, fonts, etc., but teams should select a format that facilitates effective communication of technical content.
- Please focus on providing as complete a description of your project as possible. Any graphics and/or tables should be included within the four-page limit. It is understood that there may be elements of the projects that are not complete by the time you submit the summary, so you are welcome to include a brief description of tasks that will be necessary to complete the project. Entries should make it clear what the students are trying to solve, should explain the proposed design process, and should be technically appropriate. Recommended report sections include the following: problem description, background, design criteria, proposed solutions(s), evaluation, and discussion. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts. The top teams will be invited to compete at the EWRI Congress. Each student team will orally present their project to a panel of industry judges during a special session at the conference. Invited teams will receive complimentary registrations, and up to $1000 as travel funds.

EWRI Student Chapters
The Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI), via the Student Council is calling for applications from students and faculty members (that work in areas relevant to the EWRI mission) that want to form new EWRI student chapters across US, or that want to support existing EWRI chapters.
This is a great opportunity for students and faculty to have financial support and focus on developing students’ professional skills while working on the development of local, regional and national networks with the environmental and water resources community.
